Do you ever feel like all you do every day is run from one thing to the next, and you’re constantly behind in your entire life running around? Life isn’t unhappy; it’s just extremely busy. You’re serving others, but you’re on empty. I attend a yearly mission trip to Costa Rica, and I know it sounds like I go to the beach every year, but honestly, I’ve yet to see the beach in Costa Rica. This is a real mission trip where the focus is on construction and serving someone else. The mission trip seems to always come at the right time for me. Just when I’m the busiest I’ve ever been and need a week long breather, off to Costa Rica we go. I believe the Lord strategically plans our yearly mission trip, so He can refuel me for life’s journey. It’s a week of taking all the things off my schedule that normally consume me, and instead, allowing the Holy Spirit to consume my heart. The trip is never disappointing. Instead, it’s the greatest time to see me from the Lord’s perspective. I always feel like I’m at the right place at the right time for the right reasons. After our mission trip, I feel refueled for the next season in life. I return to my family with supernatural peace and joy from serving others.
Most of all, friends, always rejoice in the Lord! I never tire of saying it: Rejoice! Keep your gentle nature so that all people will know what it looks like to walk in His footsteps. The Lord is ever present with us. Don’t be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come. And know that the peace of God (a peace that is beyond any and all of our human understanding) will stand watch over your hearts and minds in Jesus, the Anointed One.
Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy. Keep to the script: whatever you learned and received and heard and saw in me—do it—and the God of peace will walk with you. Philippians 4: 4-9 The Voice
Now that I’m fresh from the mission trip, I can turn my attention to a new season in my professional life. These two things are extremely personal as well as exciting opportunities for me. First, our Cornerstone team is partnering with Scott Ayers, who is a brilliant musician from a sanctuary music team at Highland Park United Methodist Church. We are collaborating to bring you A Gospel Celebration Sunday, May 6 at 5 PM. Tickets are $10.
